Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln close-up - Mount Rushmore National Memorial, SD. The idea for Mount Rushmore originally came from Doane Robinson, a state historian in South Dakota. He thought that somewhere in the vicinity of the Needles, a monument of gigantic proportions could be carved.
